New apartment

Thank you to all of you who have been praying for us to find an apartment. We just recently found a very well-kept apartment in a quiet part of Darjeeling. The water and electricity situation is good, there is hardly any mold in the house, and we have a private balcony with a beautiful view of the Himalaya. The landlord is friendly and we have been to his home now a couple of times to have tea and chat. His home is right upstairs in the same building as our apartment. He has expressed that he is looking forward to having us as tenants in his building and wants us to feel like family in his home.
Unfortunately, we haven’t yet moved into the apartment because the entire Darjeeling district is under an enforced strike by the popular political party in the area. They have some issues with the state government of West Bengal and the central government of India, and until those issues are resolved all the stores, government offices, and roads in the region will remain closed. Our landlord wants to put some new linoleum in the kitchen and put in more electrical outlets before we move in. But he can’t buy any supplies because all the stores are closed.
Our teammates, Jonathan & Karen Lovitt, returned safely to Darjeeling on February 7. We first met them last September, and we are already becoming close friends. They have spent the last three years studying the Nepali language and culture in depth, and they are poised to begin developing biblical tools for evangelism and discipleship. Please pray for them as they launch into their second phase of ministry.
Our language learning is going very well. We are now able to communicate with people in the community with simple phrases and sentences. We are also able to comprehend quite a bit of what people say in regular conversation.
One correction to last month’s email: We shared that our language helper’s name meant “Prayer”, but we misunderstood the meaning. Actually, her name means something more like “Worship Song.” Either way it’s still quite interesting!
The weather is getting warmer here in the hills, and hopefully the winter chill won’t return again until next winter.
